Young Iranian basketball players finish Asian c’ships with sixth place

TEHRAN, Aug. 11 (MNA) – Iran’s U18 national basketball team has finished the 2018 FIBA U18 Asian Championships in the sixth place after it was defeated by Japan.

The U18 national Iranian basketball team beat South Korea 89-81 on Friday to take on Japan but failed to defeat another eastern Asia team and had to accept the sixth place.

The young Iranian basketball players had beaten Japan 71 to 64 in the group stage of the same event.

The U18 national teams of Australia, New Zealand, Philippines and China have advanced to the semi-final stage, winning tickets to 2019 FIBA U19 World Championships.

The 25th edition of FIBA U18 Asian Championship kicked off on August 5 in Thailand and wrap up today August 11.

Sixteen Asian team are participating in the event. Iran, the defending champion, was in Group A along with Indonesia, Japan and Kazakhstan.
